Subject: Re: My winter projects (pics)

Northeast Nebraska
I replaced the axle shims last year. Did all 4 corners. It costs $2500 for the shim kit. Installed the updated shims with the replacable "pucks" that are in each shim. Some of the "pucks" are worn into pretty bad already. I'm going to replace the bad ones. Luckily the "pucks" are only $22 for the brass and $14 for the plastic.

I noticed play at the top of the steering knee after replacing the shims, so I decided to run it last year, and replace the knee bushings this winter. The bushings came right out with a chisel, I'm hoping to borrow the install tool from my dealer.

I'm not very satisfied with the axle shim design. I also do not believe in Deere's method of adjusting the shims. My shims have dents in them from the bolts being tightened into them so hard. Deere's procedure was always followed. From now on, my sprayer will always be jacked up in the air and I will use the skid loader to get the axle as "free" as possible. And then set the shim just so the bolt is snug.

I wish I didnt need to do custom spraying, then the sprayer would stay at 120". But I have a few guys in wide rows yet that I slide out for.
