SE PA | Tillage Radishes planted in the spring will bolt(go to flower) much sooner compared to a late summer planting. They won't put on a large tuber either-it's just the nature of the plant in a spring planting. However, there is anecdotal evidence they are still providing yield enhancing benefits to succeeding cash crops in spite of the different growth habit in the spring.
It is my opinion that we need to relook at the planting windows of cover crops. But most importantly, be ready to take advantage of ANY cover cropping planting opportunity we may have. That's the way we treat our cash crops- why not cover crops as well?
There's still alot to learn! | |
