I custom hire all my combining also. Have one farm that I rented this year that is quite a ways away and I used a custom guy with 8 row head and I planted with a 6 row. Had 24 end rows and it worked fine. Fields were not bad but not perfect squares also and fairly hilly. On my other farms everything is contour strip cropped and need to be matched up 6 and 6 on those.
