Our Expedition had the same problem. Mechanic had to drop tank to replace canister assembly. They also ran fresh air intake up into engine compartment. Was expensive repair.
The older Chevy's have small cartridge that can be cleaned when they change oil. You have to stand there and make sure they do it though.
