<p>Maybe we'll get there someday....but not for a while. I found this nugget of information on the Library of Congress' website regarding their digital collection:

"Myriad factors are involved in putting a digital collection together, including copyright issues, metadata and retrieval standards, preservation, scanning and conversion, and text mark-up."

Additionally, IMO, some people simply prefer browsing through stacks of books vs. browsing the web.

Maybe we'll get there in a generation or two....
