S.E. Iowa | I cant say how everything works together. I transitioned to organic several years ago, it seems like the soil on my farm has improved. I really think it is better for soil health than using pesticides. That being said the last two years have been disaster due to timelyness. When you plant beans july 4 because of rain and then cant cultivate for 3 weeks it stinks and makes a spray trip look pretty inviting! This year great planting date but a very wet June then followed by a no rain July and August I had a disaster. I have found toads out 100 + yards from the edges . When I plow it seems to pull easier. The organic people say balance your soil and the crops take care of themselves. IfI dont have a good year next year I will quit organic. In a decent year the gross is the same as conventional with way less expenses. | |
