Grass control i would say is the #1 challenge with sorghum. You will probably want to go with a preplant or preemerge treatment with one of the grass herbicides (Dual, Bicep, Cinch, etc.). If you do that then you MUST plant safened seed. As for row spacing i think 30" works best for the simple reason that if you do end up with a grass problem once the crop is up 30" spacing will allow you to run a cultivator to get most of it. As for populations that depends on rainfall-i really couldn't make a recommendation for your area. Here we plant 20-30,000 on dryland but for you i bet it would be maybe double that.
