Subject: Re: Flaming Weeds (with fire, the real kind)

Lubbock, Texas
I know someone that used a flame weeder in Plains, Texas in their vineyard it is 2 red dragon burner units hooked up to a tank that he had from something else

he pulls it behind his tractor going about 5mph or so and it will scorch all the weeds the first time and then sometimes he has to make a second pass a few days later to finish them off

he could go slower and get it on one pass, but that runs the risk of flaming up any tumbleweeds that have gotten into the vineyard and lodged in the drip tape wire and of course of the tumbleweed flames up it might burn a hole in the drip line so he just goes a bit faster and makes 2 passes over a few days

there is too much wind in west Texas to use roundup unless the vines are in total dormant state and at that time it is only late winter weeds that might be out and those are much less of an issue
