Subject: Re: new rented land not plowed

Michigan - Saginaw County
It always comes down in the court room to 'what does the rental contract say?'
Custom or what your uncle always did means nothing...
Our society has has moved past local custom or handshake deals - no contract stipulation, no plowing...
So stop complaining (if there is no contract) and get busy or plan on spring plowing...
My renter on my new farm finished my corn fields about half way through his harvest and ahead of finishing all of his owned ground...
He isn't happy about losing the ground but we will be neighbors for years to come and we both intend to be good neighbors (as far as I can tell)

OTOH, I did not have all the headlands finished strip tilling when the wife decided WE were going to New York for Thanksgiving... Now that we are back there were days of rain followed by 4 inches of snow on the ground and I can't see to strip till (and would get stuck if I tried) and she doesn't care... So the previous renter is not the only obstacle a farmer can face...
