Subject: RE: Sudan as a cover crop

tmellfam - 9/18/2011 18:58 I have this planted and don't know when to plow down (incorporate) into the soil. While still green or let winterkill and plow in spring. I want to increase the organic matl. in the soil.

-- If you're trying to increase soil organic matter (SOM), plowing is something that must be banished from your management toolkit.   Keep the sudan residue standing, and let it decompose -- That is the only way you will increase soil organic matter.  Just seed the next crop directly into it.
