| Winter rye planted in the early summer doesn't get vernalized and doesn't amount to anything.
As far as I can tell it was all dead in Jack's fields.
We did an experiment this summer comparing rye banded at 20 and 40 lbs per acre right over the soybean row with rye broadcast before the first rotary hoeing and a control of no rye. Main goal was to see if we can improve in-row weed control.
Only the rye on the edge of the field where I mowed off a few feet of soybeans is still alive.... I will post some pics this evening.
