The Far East...of Nebraska. | There is nothing wrong with kids learning what work is by picking berries or whatever. In this area, middle and high school kids detassle. They hate their lives for 2 or 3 weeks but tell stories about it the rest of their life. However, migrant worker labor would be a whole different deal than detassling. Seriously guys, I'm guessing the statistics in the show were aimed at "migrant" labor. Meaning they move to follow the harvest. Few kids who moves constantly are going to perform in the upper ten percent unless their parents are teaching them in the fields all day. Check out any school district. The "school mobility rate" shows what percentage of kids come and go. It's tough to learn when you constantly have new curriculum, friends, homes, teachers, etc. We aren't comparing apples to apples in our conversation on here. |
