Uniform depth and moisture and soil packing. Uniform spacing goes along with those.
Corn pops up a lot faster in perfect soil with just the right moisture and warm, like 60 or 65 soil temperature, it comes up quickly. And sometimes I've seen late planted corn catch up with early corn that laid in bed for 3 weeks or longer from being planted in frosty ground.
