| Great question. I myself have never understood the mass appeal of The Beatles. I guess my estimation would be that pop/rock music of the mid-60's was really weak, in terms of what was available to listen to. To me it was four guys attempting to be Buddy Holly all at the same time. Then the psychedelic phase came on and they are singing about a raccoon that was apparently done wrong, so he went to a saloon and found Gideon's Bible....ummmmm...oooooook. Many claim that the Beatles songwriting abilities were stellar...to which my reply is always "'She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah' is a display of lyrical genius??" How about "She was just seventeen, you know what I mean??" Lord, this sounds like something a junior high student would throw together.
