I've been driving one since 1977. I can't explain it to you. I'd have to show you. Best I can do is to say put the aux in 3 and work through the main using 3 and 4 in the aux to "split" the main gears. Everytime you go up on the main, drop back from 4 to 3 in the aux, regain your rpm then move up from 3 to 4 in the aux only. Later, rince, repeat.
