Subject: flex head vs rigid for wheat. flex head for dummies

Bartlett TX
In my part of the world, flex heads are rare. I have never owned one, and never really looked at one to see how it works. There are no soybeans down here, so rigid heads have always been used for harvesting wheat and milo in this area. This year, some of our wheat is 12" tall, thin stand, and must be harvested as close to the ground as possible. We have a 7088 and 9770 with 30' rigid heads equipped with 3 header height sensors. They do a great job, for what they are. Cutting along terraces at times i will have to come back and recut the channel because the wheat was too short to reach the cutterbar. How much would a flex head help in this situation? Do they run on the ground at all times? How will they perform when its wet? Would there be any downfall to a flex head over a rigid for cutting tall standing wheat? What about crossing terraces at an angle cutting end rows? How do the header height sensors work?
