central Ohio | I'm getting ready to have a hay barn put up to store round bales in. At this point, I don't plan on putting any sides on it so I get better air movement. Plus I don't mind some fading on the outside bales. Am I making a mistake by not siding at least the west side? I live in Ohio.
We've always stored them outside with each bale up on an old semi truck tire. One sidewall of each tire had 4 one-inch diameter holes so they didn't hold water. Unfortunately, the bales would still touch the ground slightly & draw some moisture.
My question is this. I plan to put geotextile down first & then put some limestone on top of the geo. Another hay grower told me I should still use the tires even with the layer of limestone. What do you all think? Also, how thick should the limestone layer be & of what size stone? | |
