I agree with Trimbleguy, of the countless installations of EZ-Guide 500's I've done, nearly all of them have been directly to battery with an inline fuse and switch. I go directly to battery just to get rid of all possibilities of bad wiring in the tractor. For those that NEED that portability, I usually still cut the cigarette lighter plug off and use a MERIT plug instead (Marine Pole, 2-pole, not sure exactly what they're called).

When an EZ-Steer motor is really trying hard, it can get to the limit of what a cigarette lighter plug can handle and may shut down the EZ-Steer controller. and you'll get an error such as "No Terrain Compensation" or "T2 error" or something similar on the EZ-Guide.
