Anyone is in business to make money to do that they have to provide a service.  Little bit of difference.

People don't operate an business with the thought,, "I want to provide service" and hopefully make a profit.

I can remember going to a Dealership with my Dad when I was young. There was almost no room to walk, machines of all varieties were literally crammed wall to wall in the shop during the winter time. It really took planning to put the right machine in the right spot so quick fixes were not stuck in the back of the shop while longer term rebuilts were plugging up the doors. Think there were 8-10 full time mechanics??

Same shop now may have 3-4 major pieces at any given time being worked on. Most times it's one or two machines, and 2 mechanics don't have much to do...

Now,,most all Farmers now have built pretty big shops. $60-70/hour was getting stiff. $80-$100/hour a shop at home pencils out pretty fast.

Far as the "next day" delivery,,  I remember when Dealers didnot charge at all.  The order was already "sold" before the phone was hung up, not one cent was tied up in "flooring costs" (hanging on to $10,000's of parts 6-12 months waiting to be sold) and shipping was/is fairly minimal.

A part held in stock 4 months is actually more expensive than ordering the same part and having it there and in the mechanic's hand the next day.

"Next day" shipping costs can be much more than the cost of the actual part.  I try and plan ahead or go with out the part 3-4 days and wait for the part to be shipped "stock order" and I don't wind up paying for shipping.   It's a little frustrating paying $14.00 for shipping and $8.00 for the actual part.  Which incurred no cost as it was sold before actually being delivered.
