I agree, it sounds to me like the unit is shimmed wrong. I just installed one on a Buhler 435, I noticed the same thing. Dug into a little bit, added some more shims to the anti rotate clamp all the binding went away. I think mine steers the same as it did before I put the Universal motor on. I too was impressed with the way the motor worked, I have GS in eveything else, and this makes a nice solution to the Buhler.
