Sunnyvale, CA | Deere uses a stepper motor with a chain drive with a gear arrangement to inrease the torque of the motor. The motor is always connected, although not always energized and there is no clutch. this means when you manually steer the tractor, you have to turn the stepper motor against its natural resistance, and it is unlikely to change with time.
If this is a concern, you might take a look at the new EZ-Guide 500 and EZ-Steer. The electric motor of the EZ-Steer can be moved off of the steering wheel very easily when not in use. The EZ-Guide 500 can work with WAAS and can be upgraded to Omnistar XP/HP or RTK, should your need for improved accuracy change. | |
