Recently, I was at one of the Irsik & Doll feedyards and they said the holsteins were the absolute worst as far as cribbing.  Those pens are all 3 wood 'rails'/poles on wood posts.  They did specifiy that if the rails were debarked, the problem wasn't as bad, but ... still the had more problems with the "hosty's" than all other breeds combined.

I'm wondering if it has anything at all to do with being 'bottle' calves and maybe penned and 'bored' at an early age.  Bad habits created early from the boredom as babies? 

maybe, maybe not ... just a thought
