BUT starting on vapor is how JD's manual says to start the LP tractor of that era. You think they didn't know how to start and run the over 4000 4010 that they built?

I realize that, but I question how much value starting on vapor really had. Was it really of value, or was it just one of those "facts" that the engineers of the day thought must be done with no real proof to back it up.

My cousin had a 3020 LP that he always started on liquid and had no fuel system problems in 20 years use.
I grew up running a pair of 55 model Moline GB propane tractors that were always started and run on liquid, never an engine or fuel system problem.
The vaporizers and mixers are changed little if any, yet no one uses the vapor start system now, in fact, I have never seen a modern tank that had a vapor valve or the bung to install it in.
