I agree. As I mentioned in my long post above, I enjoy fiddling with these things and in all honesty some are just a "can I pull it off" type of adventure hobby type thing. Others have resulted in some things that are actually useful.

If one's only goal is to get something that works for a specific situation then going the ready made route is probably a better approach.

I'm self-taught as far as learning of working with microcontrollers; My former electronics training is certainly helpful. I have watched many YouTube videos with mixed results. Some are extremely helpful and others are simply incorrect and very annoying with pets and kids detracting in the background and the language barrier. It is very difficult and often painful to try to listen to some of the foreign English.

One of my favorites is the DroneBot workshop out of Canada. Bill does an excellent job. He is easy to understand although at times embarrassing since he uses the "Good Kings English" whereas I'm used to Midwest Slang.
