Your symptoms would fit a bad GPS portion of the display cable. Mapping of course, would require good GPS where yield, moisture etc. would not be dependent on a good GPS signal.

If you used a known good 1500 and its known good cable this could be the problem. Another idea: I'm a bit foggy on this but as I recall, a 1500 might need to be connected to another device to force the GPS output to a lower setting of 4800 BAUD 8, N, 1 as I believe they came set at a higher BAUD rate.

This change can be done by temporarily connecting the 1500 to a newer Ag Leader Display. The newer display would accept them the way they were shipped and use the newer display to change the BAUD rate. After the change, the new slower rate would remain in effect until it was changed again. Then the 1500 would work with the older slower PF3000s.
