Subject: RE: While discussing tractors …

Currently have a 4240 and 4440. 4240 is knocking on 15k hours and the 4440 at 12k hours. 4240 as long as weve had it has been trouble free. Overhauled it about 20 years ago. Since then it's just been to replace any pieces and parts that have reached the age and wear limit. 4440 has had a more colorful life. Grandpa tore B range out plowing sod 2 years after he bought it, luckily was still.under warranty. Then about 10 years ago the pto clutch went out, sent it to town, dealer said theyd replace the rear main engine seal while they had it split. Brought it home, raked 5 acres of hay, white smoke pours out the breather. New rear seal blew out. Sent it back. They "fixed" it. Dad made it 4 miles from the dealer, engine starts knocking. It was after hours but dad was hot enough they did send a truck to pick it up on the side of the highway before dark. 3rd fix, brought it home, hydraulic leaks everywhere. Forgot to tighten a bunch of hydraulic lines after splitting the tractor for the 3rd time. Since then aside from a couple steel hydraulic lines, it hasn't had any issues.

Also have an 8640 i bought a few years ago. I know they get a lot of hate, but i honestly love that tractor. Big enough to do most of our tillage needs, but small and nimble enough to move around and is a nice backup grain cart tractor
