East Central Illinois | Local guy has one that we’ve used for tiling a few times. Couple of things to know about this camera- the cable itself is far too flexible to shove down a field tile, it is designed for small pvc tubing. We got it in about 8 feet before it just bunched up. We ended up taping the end of the camera onto our locator, and shoving both of them in the tile. This was in a new 8” single wall tile, so no dirt or anything. You have to shove it in fairly slow or you can fly right by connections or damage without realizing it. Then just make sure you pull both of them out at the same time, and it might take a couple guys wrapping them up as you pull them out.
Watching the local guy try to locate lines with it was a joke as well. Just the head of the camera has a link to the locator, so unless you just go a few feet at a time, you can lose track of the path of the tile, and can be hard to find the camera’s location. The local guy struggled with locating several times for us, and then just gave up, and he was in a 4” tile about 40 feet
All this to say, I am very close to buying one for our drainage operation, but will just plan on attaching it to our locator to push into tile. We will just use our locator to actually locate, as this thing seemed like a joke to actually follow a tile. But is sure is neat to be able to see down a tile! Just torn between dealing with attaching it to our locator each time to save a few thousand dollars and buy a heavier cabled camera. | |
