Central Iowa | I've got a mixed bag of trucks with auto's. 02 Freightliner with what I call a 3 petal autoshift(10 sp). It's been good with very few problems but My "guy" tells me there is an issue with the wiring harness for these transmissions and new parts are unavailable. Slow to get up to speed in the lower gears but livable. Have a Allison in a dump truck that hauls up to 100K. The best in my mind but I just have to put in gear and try my best to ignore it. Constantly shifting or locking and unlocking the convertor. Does it's thing and it's the gold standard for dump trucks in this area. Just got a '13 dump with an ultrashift(10 sp). It's ok but difficult to inch back into the conveyor we dump into. Helps when the driver gets used to it. Long story short, I won't buy another manual shift truck. Probably has to do with my age(63) and the fact that I'm not in the hurry I once was. Guys that have driven my trucks that claimed they would never be caught dead in an auto have to admit after a day in them that it's OK, and I consider that a huge statement for auto's. | |
