Central Western VA Mountains | Thanks for the replies everyone and info.
Much to digest on my end and options to consider.
The biggest round bales we may have would be 4x5 if we upgrade balers. Presently we have a 4x4 round baler. Our market is horse customers primarily and they like the 4x4 round bales.
All of our hay is grown to sell. I might deliver some small loads - nothing like the huge loads I see going up and down the road. One of the uses for the trailer (with brakes) is to safely move round bales off of our hills to our barn yard. I’m considering delivery, but right now everyone picks up their hay at the farm.
As to the truck, I’d like something reasonably reliable, 4x4 and without a rusted frame. Not sure we need a 5th wheel trailer or a dually truck.
Probably the top three reasons for the truck and trailer are 1) haul antique tractors to plow days, parades, etc. That tractor would be a Farmall 350 or a MF 50 diesel. 2) Haul our utility tractors off the farm and back for repairs that are beyond our ability and tool set. Would use the trailer to haul implement purchases to the farm. 3) Haul round bales off our hills and potentially deliver.
Thanks again for the info - I’ve got a lot of reading/learning to do…
