Subject: IH 1640 (later model SN#)

Minnesota
Hello forum, I am having a problem with my IH 1640 combine and trying to diagnose the problem.

Combine was working great yesterday with no issues.

Todays story, I can start the combine and it will drive with 1/2 tank of fuel. Turning the key switch to the on position, sometimes you can hear the fuel pump activate and when this happens the machine operates correctly when started (everything powered and working). However, more often turning the key to the on position will only power the digital tac steady and light up the grain and shaft monitors for moments. When this happens the fuel pump does not run, seperator and feederhouse switches do not work, not able to raise or lower the feederhouse, radio and cabin fan are also not powered. (I was able to start into some rows with everything working and then it quit again)

Spent the day checking connectors and battery connections, I finally found the part number to the ignition switch, which was the same part number for our 5088. After tearing the ignition switch out of that tractor and installing it in the combine I came up with the same results.

My next diagnosis would be the relays, I see that there are 4 against the RH side panel, and about 6 of them on the rear cab wall. Being has IH did not include any information about the relays in the manual, wondering if there is any information out there to help figure out which relay I should look at.

I can only hope this will be a small issue to fix, but finding it has been difficult to diagnose. Any advice for finding what circuit would cause loss of power to the seperator and feederhouse engage switches, feederhouse raise/lower, fuel pump, radio, and cabin fan would be much appreciated! They either all work or none of them work so I am thinking it is a single circuit problem.

Thanks again!
