Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | I use a feeler steering system for corn in my combine . I use the InCommand 1200 that was in the planting tractor when the fields were planted for monitoring the corn harvest. Since it still has the AB lines from planting the field, I use them as a guide as to which set of rows I pull in on when striking through to make a new strip with the combine.
My planter is 24 rows and my corn head is an 8 row. That means I can strike through on the left set of 8, the center set of 8 or the right set of 8 and my last pass will be exactly 8 rows. Sometimes when I'm going to strike through, I will just pull up to a set with the combine and stop. The guidance indicator will show me if I'm on a proper set or if I need to move over a row or two.
If I'm off a row or two, I back up, move over and again stop to confirm that I'm then on a workable set. When I'm certain that I'm on a workable set, I drive forward and steer manually for a bit and then engage the feeler system. The feeler system follows the rows and steers to the other end.
