Actually that would be my advice also. WeatherPak connectors are very reliable and available from a variety of sources. As Ron mentions this would require changing both ends so your wiring would no longer be standard for the future but I don't see that as a real problem. Writing yourself a note as far as which wire goes where might be useful in the future.

The Fast Close valve which I dislike, uses all four wires. One is constant 12VDC, another is constant ground. The remaining wires are the Increase/Decrease pair. With the controller set to Fast Close, the Fast Close valve uses the constant 12VDC and ground to provide the power to turn the valve based on the polarity of the Increase/Decrease pair.

With a Standard valve, the four pins may be there but the valve only uses the Increase/Decrease pair since the standard valve is geared down, they can run that motor directly.
