Sanilac Co. Michigan | OK, so there was some grown "here" in the lower Thumb back in the mid to late 80's for like maybe a year and then, poof, no more! Might have been marketed through Lapeer Coop. This would have been winter canola, I think. Was the ag lender at a little community bank at the time and had some customers that fooled with it.
I'm a little fuzzy on the details, but seems like yield/profitability weren't competitive with soys, harvesting was a challenge at the time and maybe including it in the rotation didn't play well with sugar beets for some reason. Dang near 40 years ago, but that's all I recall. | |
