South Western, IL | Sorry to disagree and I know that I haven’t ever lived through a terrible drought but too dry is definitely not always worse.
If it’s “too dry” here it’s the best thing possible because you don’t cause compaction in the spring, you can get things done timely, do dirt work if needed, actually get ammonia on without dragging tanks through soft spots and the big one is save so much erosion.
We had a fairly dry start to the spring and there were people already starting off worrying about it being too dry back in march. We had a window to get a few things done and then it slammed shut and hasn’t opened back up.
I will never complain about it being too dry. Even when we were in a historic drought in 2012 less damage was being cause to the land and geography than flooding rains, and one small late August rain ended up kicking beans in the butt and we had ok beans.
