nc north dakota | I am not making my decision to not plant durum just on the price. 4.00 per bushel at the local co-op plus the 1.56 ldp=a better price than spring wheat is now. too many things can change in one year(ie. protien discounts, ldp's, scab severity). and it is difficult to market durum locally. there always seems to be something discounted on durum and if i happen to raise good quality #1 had, like this year, then there are huge stocks of durum everywhere. So much eaiser to raise spring wheat and less residue to deal with. my area used to produce many acres of durum and now there are just a handfull of growers. i am just going to stop growing it and join the local group of durum growers annomous and hope to not fall off the wagon. | |
