As a senior in high school I went with my brother to retrieve his White Freightliner that he had to leave in a repair shop in Charlottesville, VA. The guys working the service desk would ask me questions just to hear me speak. They were somewhat fascinated by my accent. Of course, IMHO they were the ones who had the funny accent.

I have had a bit of speech training since then so I guess I don't sound quite so odd now.
