We had a Vermeer R23, and it was a good enough rake for ideal conditions.

Then we got an Allen basket rake, and the R23 spent most of its time parked. The Allen rake design gives so much more control over what you're doing - making a windrow out of flat hay, flipping a windrow, pulling two windrows together, picking up scattered hay, etc.
