Weight put into next generations opinions?

They might have some idea, lol.

Putting up a cattle barn.

What are the advantages?

-Manure management
-Faster growth.
-Possibly animal health, hit or miss depending on operator.

Disadvantages:
Much higher initial investment
More daily chores
Limited expansion options without spending $$$
Limited options when they cease to be used.
Higher risk of damage due to weather.

If the kids truly love the livestock you and jr. need to talk to a minimum of 5 barn operators and 5 traditional operators.
What you will probably find is either one works if you manage them closely. From my view the buildings have more risk because your initial cost per head and these days interest expense is so much higher.
