Have had a Wintex for 8 years now. Really like it. They don’t have an auger. 0-6 inch sample. That’s how the lab makes recommendations. You’re over thinking this. Fertilizer recommendations are based on the volume of nutrients in a specific depth. Example if you took a 0-6” and told them I was a 0-12” the recommendation would be different then 0-6”, even if the sample was 0-6”.

When we started grids we were told the two main concerns were make sure you use the same depth and go back to the same sample point. That’s why we bought a Wintex.
