Just straight hedge. Puts are crazy expensive out that far.

Just had a conversation with my insurance about LRP. We don't calve till April, so they classify that as "unborn steers and heifers". The farthest you can insure those is middle of Nov from today, and that's at a max weight of 600lbs.

Now we background calves, so with the LRP policy there is no way to protect a 800 to 900 lb calf until they hit the ground.

I'm not convinced they are the best option to capture long term prices. Anybody else dig further into these options?
