Simple math: we have about a small set of used bins - recent additions cost around $4000, stored 17K bu of corn since fall started (took 3 months to fill them - slow drying corn, muddy field). Fall minimum storage price was $0.27/bu - $4590 - bins made money. The other bins hold beans and cost around $500 to $1000 to put up each (used 18' - mainly concrete costs) and have completely paid for themselves several times over. Of course there is some additional handling, but usually the elevator was closed early so at least we could keep on harvesting. If you buy everything new, it will take some time to get it paid for, but instead of paying elevator storage you'll be paying for an asset.

Thanks,

Pat
