In the process of setting up a new shop and see Home Depot has these Garage Cabinets on sale. Anyone familiar with this brand or know of a better alternative? Haven't seen them in person just ran across the ad online so curious if you guys have any knowledge, thanks.

I’d be leary if they are built heavy enough. I prefer a 30” plus deep workbench. Steffes has some heavy built benches on their monthly sales usually. I believe they are anywhere from 8-14’ wide

Personally if it's a shop, not a garage, I would spend a little more for something heavy duty. You could do like janderson mentioned or splurge and go with something like mctavish, we put mctavish in our shop and they are an excellent unit.

$300/ft for benches, upper cabinets are about half that I believe?

Winn rack makes some nice stuff too. I don't think you could go being with any of those three. We looked at them all quite extensively, mctavish just fit our needs and was a tad cheaper than the other 2 but I would have been perfectly happy with them as well

We have a couple of the "StorLoc" rolling tool boxes. They are well mad & each drawer has a high weight rating. Also have some metal framed bolt bins with plastic pullouts that we bought on-line. We've also purchased some old wooden parts bin from a old farm equipment dealership & refurbished those. If a guy takes his time & watches auctions he can sometimes run across some good deals

These are not the same style but check these out. Very heavy and compact. We put some in at work and really like them. Great guys to work with. They are out of Seward, NE.

We have utilized some used vidmar cabinets for parts storage. Roller drawers hold about 400 pounds a drawer. Much better than parts bins. Have bought them off of used industrial sites. They come in all kinds of drawer configurations and heights. There are a number of different brands but Stanley vid are is most common. They really shine to organize small parts like pipe and hose fittings, specialty bolts etc. You don't have dust problems neither like you get in a shop.

We have had mctavish for 5 years now they work just as good as the day they were new. Very heavily built. I would definitely recommend.

Kind of a take off of a library archive moveable shelf system. Definitely a space maximizer for certain storage needs.

Would you mind elaborating on your bolt bins? I’ve got metal shelves with plastic bins, but struggle getting the dividers to stay put in the plastic bins. Maybe I just haven’t found the correct adhesive yet.

Look on eBay for vidmar cabinets. That will give you some ideas. From memory they are approx 4 to 5 ' high and 28" wide. There are some that are more bench height but they are not as common. They can have anywhere from 4 drawers to 13. You can get different drawer arrangements and drawer depths. We have quite a few and use them for everything. We purchased a whole load from a factory close out and sold what we didn't need. Some drawers are deep enough to store 1 gallon paint cans and others only a 1 1/2in deep for small parts. Most implement dealers use them for parts storage. We have pd used from 200 to 700 a cabinet. New they are around 1500 more or less depending on amount of drawers and dividers. They are very heavy duty. Replacement parts and dividers are pretty easy to find on the internet.

McTavish is the best in my opinion also. Bought one a few years ago and another one a year or so ago and they are both very nice cabinets, I have Snap-on tool boxes and these are that type quality.
