Subject: Keeping a Bottle calf a for Bull?

Texas
A friend gave my boys a bottle calf the other day. His mother is very old and just didn’t have much milk anymore and the calf was going backwards. He decided to pull the calf before they both die.

Anyways, the calf comes from very good stock. Both parents purchased from the same breeder and my friend said she was an excellent mother but is now 12 or so years old. I got him straighten up and back on the gain (he had scours when I got him) I was going to slip a cheerio on him and thought, I need a fresh bull, what if I kept him and saved the $5000.

Would you feed him to 500 or so and see what he looks like? Guy has a pedigree as good as anything out there. He was very small at birth though probably 40lb and of course will probably be a little of a dogie unless I do a really good job. Possibility of keeping him as a bull could encourage me to feed him better and keep the milk up longer too.

Any chance he makes a bull?
