On the soil we farm in most cases the least productive spots are usually in upper portion of the landscape ( hills ).  If i understand it right that would be considered a poor zone and less inputs would be put on those areas and more inputs put on the more productive zones. Could there be a alternative to that like improving the poor zones using practices that create less water runoff,  better water holding capacity and less erosion ect. thus making them zones more productive?
