Where Lewis and Clark finished the rum | were we going to start a thread about elevation issues - separate from the earlier one?
I've logged a lot of data - some better than others. And I currently use a post processing unit with a base station, since I don't have RTK. Works well and we get nice, useful data, which I think would even be useful enough to do drainage.
A couple thoughts on rec'vr location. When mounted on top of a cab - combine, sprayer etc, one has to worry about cosine error. My math indicates that for a reciever 10 ft above ground, on a 10 degree sidehill, would have a 1.7+ ft sideways error and at least a 1.8" elevation error. So while I sometimes use this data collection method, when I am really serious, I put the gps reciever right over a wheel - usually the left front of my spray truck or pickup or whatever I am using to collect. In addition to running transects, I do some of the details. That is, I follow waterways, ridgelines and other important features, so that when I grid the data, I don't interpolate through some of the waterways etc. |
