Central/Northeast Missouri | Working on my cash flows for this upcoming year and I am on the fence about trying something new.
There appears to be more upside on conventional beans vs. Liberty beans IF you can find a buyer.
This is my 3rd year row cropping and I will have 40 rented acres to work with that was corn in 2018. Is there enough bushels here to justify putting in a rented bin and searching for a premium? If they make 40bpa I'd be looking at 1,600 bushels.
If all else fails I can haul them to the elevator as regular beans. I would save money on seed but spend more on weed control.
A few questions I had for the Conventional bean experts on here-
-Do you have a contract in place with a buyer before ever planting a seed?
-What are some locations/buyers that you like and would be interested in conventional beans?
-What herbicide programs work well for you? This field will be disked/field cultivated before planting.
-I am in Northeast Missouri, does anyone have experience with LG seeds 5900?
Thanks!
Here's a picture of my RR2 beans I planted into 40 acres of CRP last summer. I planted cereal rye on this field in November. I'm still undecided on whether I will harvest the cereal rye then plant double crop beans, harvest then leave fallow and do some improvement on the farm (lime, ditch work, and August cover crop), or terminate this spring and plant a full season bean on it. So theoretically I could have up to 80 bean acres to work with instead of just 40.
