Carthage, Indiana | Pay attention to the details. Work hard and be honest. I started farming freshman year of high school with an 8 row 7000 planter and dads tractor. ( he rented out his ground to another farmer till we got back into it). I rented 8 acres of rough ground and have progressively picked up ground that needs work or some patches that the rent is just to leave some crop that they can hunt. I have cash rent, trade for work, and shares on my ground as well as just harvested my first crop off of the farm I bought this spring it’s a great feeling. Own your own equipment and don’t be afraid to turn a wrench. A combine would be the last piece I would suggest buying. And when you do buy one have someone more experienced look it over. A cheap combine is cheap for a reason. A nice planter and a nice sprayer will make you money. On my farm and dads we tissue sample and spray on Folliar fertilizer and fungicides. That has been our biggest gain. Dad and I make a good team and help share equipment. We each own Equiptment and just put fuel in depending on the farm. Repairs are shared and I work on most of it. Be safe and at the end of the day sometimes it’s best to just agree to disagree. We work together on getting work done and it works out. In the spring I’ll graduate from Purdue with a degree in agronomy. I’m 22 and this is what I have learned in my 8 years of farming experience. Attached are some pictures from this year
