Subject: 100000 mile review of new peterbilt/ emissions Cummins

Pierce county WI
So my new Pete clicked to 100k today. I told some guys when I bought it that I'd keep them informed on the performance. So far, engine wise it's been great. Sensor for the egr temp went out last fall during combining. No big deal, was able to keep driving it and took it to the dealer when it rained. Never did a manual regen. Power wise, it will pull the same hill and loaded as my old 379 (which was a pretty good running 470 ddec 3) 5+ mph faster. Mileage has done a best of 6.9. that was running light east. I can average 6 if I want to, but I've put my foot in it more cause I've been busy and fuel is pretty cheap. So I've been getting 5.5 and that's pulling a van with a flat top West. Now for the truck part. It's really quiet and comfortable, and rides awesome. I love the sound system, and the leather seats and steering wheel. The chrome shifter is very cool too. The problem is that when it's so quiet and comfortable, it doesn't always feel like you're driving a semi. Most of the time that's great, but sometimes I miss a little noise and turbo whistle and even some kind of scent to remind me I'm driving a diesel. The interior is very nicely put together, and it's a Platinum. That being said, is still not as nice as a classic 2 interior from a 359/352. Except for the door panels being nicer, I like an American class interior in a 90s 379 better. The tunes are bad *SS. Whether it's cross Canadian ragweed, Chevelle, or Waylon, the factory subwoofer is excellent! I HATE the stupid smartnav navigation/ phone/radio/ gauges, ECT. The annoying notifications for roads and curves, and weigh stations on the other side of the road. The blue tooth sucks! The screen is nice for the radio, but I'd rather just have a regular radio and put in my portable satellite radio. The tilt steering cable broke on me. I like the 379 tilt column much better. So if I were to order a new peterbilt after owning this one, here's what I would change: Full rosewood dash, instead of the have rosewood, half black dash. No smartnav, just a regular radio (the good factory setup with the subwoofer) and full analog regular gauges. Spotlights, I love the old school look of my truck, but I think spotlights would complete the old look. Longer wheelbase, 280 is cool, but 290 would be even cooler....... The older 359 style heat shields on the stacks. 18 speed, or a little lower gears. I wanted a 13, but with the gears you end up downshifting to the low side when you are turning in town traffic. HP/torque, 1850/550 is good enough, but what the heck, my as well go 600/2050! So all in all, I'm very happy with my Pete. So there it is, the first 100k.
