Middle West | As FC futures look to close near the contract highs, I ponder whether I should be hedging my production. I look at the price of real cattle trading at a premium to futures, week after week weigh cows being slaughtered, hardly any heifers being retained and barely any young producers entering the business. Are prices so good and the age of producers just right that they just decide to retire instead of build to meet demand? What is it going to take to start building the herd in this country again??? Not to mention lack of pasture.. | |
