Subject: Stack freshly baled hay?

Driftless SW Wisconsin

I am going to rake in in the morning then bale 2nd cutting alfalfa tomorrow beginning around noon. There is a 40% chance of rain in late afternoon, 70% chance tomorrow evening then another 40% Friday.

I would like to get these bales out of the field and into my hay shed before they get rained on if possible.

Question: is it ok to stack freshly baled alfalfa bales as they come in from the field or would it be advisable to leave them on the floor of the shed with a bit of space between them for a couple days before putting in their final location.

I think the bales will test somewhere around 15% moisture but will check. At what moisture (if any) can I bring them in directly from the baler put them right up in the stack out from the wall?

Thanks for any info.

Jim
